The Committee
She looked at him, he at her; and a third looked at both of them. In their shadow was I - the lesser fourth. Three stood before me, forming a committee for which I had no say. They made the decisions, and I simply touched the stream of what unfolded in circumstance. In the back of my own head I am simply an observer, and these three are the constructs I invented to navigate life. One for work, one for love, and one for everything else. I held no power of arbitration, the vote was unanimous besides. The decision was made, and all I could do was feel my hand on plastic as I drove the knife into her chest.
